What is the Bridge River Country?

The name "Bridge River" can mean the river itself. But it also refers to this whole area. It's considered part of the larger Lillooet Country. However, the Bridge River Country has its own unique story and identity. Some people tried to call it the "West Cariboo." This was because Lillooet is sometimes seen as the edge of the Cariboo region. But the name "West Cariboo" never really became popular.

Where is the Bridge River Country Located?

The Bridge River Country mainly includes the area around the Bridge River and its smaller streams. But it also includes some nearby communities. These are D'Arcy, McGillivray Falls, Seton Portage, and Shalalth. These places are in the valley of Seton and Anderson Lakes. They are also near the Gates River, just to the south. These communities are part of both the Bridge River Country and the Lillooet Country.

Why is it Called "Bridge River-Lillooet"?

After the 1930s, the name "Bridge River-Lillooet" became common. This happened because of a new newspaper. It was called the Bridge River-Lillooet News. This newspaper served the town of Lillooet and its surrounding areas. It also served the mining towns located further up the Bridge River. This helped to link the two areas together in people's minds.
