What is Bridge Road Stadium?
Bridge Road is a football stadium where the Histon F.C. team plays their home games. The stadium can hold up to 4,300 people. About 1,700 of these seats are covered, protecting fans from the weather.
Stadium Layout and Seating
The stadium has two main stands at the entrance. These run along one side of the football pitch. On the opposite side, there is a smaller covered stand. Behind each goal, you will find covered areas for standing fans.
One end, called 'Bridge Road', is next to the road of the same name. It is behind the goal to the right when looking from the main stands. The other end is known as the 'Rec End' by Histon F.C. fans. Home fans often use this area during games.
Stadium Improvements Over Time
The stadium has changed a lot over the years. In 2003, there was only a small covered area for about 350 fans. There was also a temporary standing area for 150 fans. Since then, many improvements have been made. These changes helped the team, nicknamed "the Stutes," to play in higher leagues.
Upgrades and New Facilities
In 2007, the Cambridgeshire County Football Association decided to build its new main office at Bridge Road. This brought even more new facilities to the stadium. These included a new grandstand with 500 seats.
By January 2008, the stadium was given an "A grade" rating. This meant it was good enough for teams to play in Football League Two. This was important if Histon F.C. ever got promoted to that level.
More improvements began in March 2008. Covered standing areas were added to the entire 'Rec End'. A new seated stand was also built along the pitch, opposite the main stand. These projects finished in April 2008. About 800 new seats were added, bringing the total seating to over 1,700.
The Steve Fallon Stand
In October 2012, the main grandstand was given a new name. It became the Steve Fallon Stand. This was done to celebrate Steve Fallon's great work. He helped the club reach the Conference National league.
Record Attendance and History
The most people ever to watch a game at Bridge Road was 4,103 fans. This happened during an FA Cup match against Leeds United F.C. on November 30, 2008.
The land where the stadium now stands used to belong to the Chivers family. They grew roses there. This is why you can see a rose in the logo of Histon F.C.
