History of Bridgeport
Bridgeport has a long history. It was one of the first settlements in New Jersey. It was part of the New Sweden colony. This colony was founded by people from Sweden and Finland.
Early Settlement
Bridgeport was founded around 1650. It was first called Nya Stockholm. This means "New Stockholm" in Swedish. Stockholm is the capital city of Sweden. Later, the name was changed to Bridgeport.
Modern Developments

Geography and Location
