History of Bristol
How Bristol Got Its Name
Bristol was once known as Bristol Station. This name was used until 1957. In that year, a nearby area also called Bristol joined with Yorkville. They formed one larger city.
Because of this merger, Bristol Station was able to drop "Station" from its name. It officially became known simply as "Bristol."
Bristol's Location and Growth
Bristol is still very close to Yorkville. The borders of Yorkville are now less than a mile from the center of Bristol. Other growing towns like Oswego and Sugar Grove are also expanding.
Because of this growth, Bristol might soon become part of one of these larger towns. This process is called annexation. It means a larger city takes over a smaller area. Bristol could also become completely surrounded by these growing communities.
What You Can Find in Bristol
Bristol has a few important places. You can find a small post office there. There is also a local bar and a train station. These places are located near the center of the community.
