The Broad Street Baptist Church was a church in Nottingham, England. It was open from 1818 to 1901. Today, the building is a bar called Revolution.

History of the Church

The Broad Street Baptist Church started in 1817. A group of people left the Stoney Street Baptist Church to form their own church. Their minister, Robert Smith, led them. New buildings for the church were built on Broad Street in 1818. A few years later, a Sunday School building was added next door.

In 1842, the church was invited to celebrate an anniversary with another Baptist group. This helped them work more closely with other Baptist churches. They joined the Baptist Union, which brought different Baptist groups together.

The church also helped start other Baptist churches. In 1859, they helped build the Daybrook Baptist Church.

In 1901, the Broad Street Baptist Church joined with another church. This was the Milton Street General Baptist chapel, which later became the Mansfield Road Baptist Church.

After the church closed, the building changed. In 1903, Hedley John Price turned it into a warehouse for lace. Later, in the late 1900s, it became the Revolution bar. The old Sunday School building also became a bar called Muse.

Who Were the Ministers?

These are some of the people who led the church:

  • Robert Smith
  • Adam Smith
  • Richard Ingham (from 1834 to 1838)
  • W.R. Stevenson (from 1851 to 1876)

Music at the Church

At first, the church used stringed instruments for music. In 1857, they bought a harmonium, which is like a small organ. Then, in 1869, a new pipe organ was put in. It was built by a local company called Lloyd and Dudgeon.
