Mansfield Road Baptist Church is a Baptist church located in Nottingham, England. It is part of the Baptist Union of Great Britain.
The Church's Story
Early Beginnings
Mansfield Road Baptist Church started in 1849. It began when some members of the Stoney Street Baptist Church in Nottingham decided to form their own new church.
Moving to Milton Street
The new group built their first church building, called a chapel, on Milton Street. This chapel opened its doors in 1851.
In 1863, Samuel Cox became the minister. He was a very active writer and journalist. He stayed at the church until 1888.
A New Home
In 1901, the church welcomed members from another church, Broad Street Baptist Church. A few years later, in 1912, they started building a brand new church. This new building was finished in 1913.
The church then moved to its current location, at the corner of Gregory Boulevard and Sherwood Rise. The old Milton Street chapel was sold. It later became a lecture hall for the nearby Nottingham Mechanics' Institution.
The Organ
The church has a special pipe organ. It was put in place in 1913 by a company called Norman and Beard. You can find details about this organ on the National Pipe Organ Register.
