Broadwood is a small town in the Northland Region of New Zealand. It's located about 25 kilometers north of the Hokianga harbour. Nearby towns include Herekino to the west and Mangamuka Bridge to the east.
The first Pākehā (European New Zealanders) settlers arrived in the Broadwood area in the 1880s. Roads were built to connect Broadwood to other places. An important road was made from Takahue to Motukaraka on the Hokianga harbour. Later, in 1908, another road was built through the Te Karae Valley to Kohukohu.

Broadwood Area School

The school first opened in 1908. It became a District High School in 1952, which means it offered more advanced education. In 1973, it changed again to become an Area School, serving a wider range of ages. Before 1908, there was also a state-supported school in Broadwood from 1895 to 1904.
