Bronx, Wyoming facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Bronx was a small community located in Sublette County, Wyoming, United States. It was situated on the east side of the Green River. This area was close to the first Warren Bridge. The bridge was named after J.J. Warren, a rancher from Missouri who lived nearby.

The History of Bronx

Bronx began as a settlement in the early 1900s. Many of the first people who settled here came from Kansas. In 1906, a post office was opened in Bronx. It was located on the Pape Ranch.

Community Life in Early Bronx

The community also built a special hall. This community hall was about half a mile east of the Warren Bridge. You can still see the foundations of this building today. A store was also an important part of Bronx. C.Y. Phillips first opened the store. Later, a family business called R.T. Albert and Sons took over running it.

Schools in the Bronx Area

Education was important for the children living in and around Bronx. There were two schools in the area.

Beaver School and Bronx School

The Beaver School was built on the west side of the Green River. Later, this school building was moved closer to Cora. The Bronx School was on the east side of the river. Both schools were part of Sublette County School District Number 6.

School Closures and Reopening

The schools in Bronx closed around 1948. However, there was no way for students to get to Pinedale for school. Because of this, the schools in Bronx reopened in 1953. They continued to operate for several years. The schools finally closed for good between 1964 and 1965.

Bronx Today

Today, the area where Bronx once stood is mostly covered by ranches. These ranches vary in size. Even though Bronx is no longer a busy community, its spirit lives on.

The Bronx Community Club

The Bronx Community Club is still active. This club includes women from the local ranches. It also has members from nearby towns like Pinedale and Cora. This shows that the community ties from Bronx are still strong.
