Cora is a small community in Sublette County, Wyoming. It is known as a census-designated place (CDP), which means it's a special area counted by the census bureau. In 2020, about 114 people lived there.

History of Cora
Cora might have been named after a cowgirl called Cora House. She lived in the area a long time ago.
The Post Office and Dog Sleds
In the early 1900s, the town's post office moved to where it is today. Back then, mail was delivered by dog sleds during the winter! This was how people in Cora and the nearby Green River valley got their mail.
In 2011, the U.S. Postal Service thought about closing the Cora post office. This was to save money. But the people of Cora really wanted it to stay open. They wrote many letters and protested. They said the post office was a very important meeting place for their community. Good news! The post office is still open today.
Famous Resident
A famous person named John Perry Barlow grew up in Cora. He was a lyricist, which means he wrote song words for the band Grateful Dead. His family's home was called the Bar Cross Ranch.
Cora's Population
In the year 2000, there were 76 people living in Cora. By 2010, the population grew to 142 people. In 2020, it was 114 people.

Geography and Location
Cora is located in Wyoming. It covers an area of about 5.0 square miles (12.9 square kilometers). All of this area is land.
On April 24, 2017, the town of Cora was added to the National Register of Historic Places. This means it's a special place with historical importance.
Cora's Climate
Cora has a type of weather called a subarctic climate. This means it has very cold, long winters and short, cool summers.
The hottest temperature ever recorded in Cora was 95°F (35°C) on August 18, 1998. The coldest temperature ever was a very chilly -46°F (-43°C) on December 22, 1990.
