History of Brookville

Brookville was planned and laid out in 1808 by a person named Thomas Manwarring. The town got its name from 'Brooks,' which was the maiden name of a settler's mother. A post office has been open in Brookville since 1816.

Geography and Nature

Brookville is a special place where two parts of the Whitewater River meet: the East Fork and the West Fork. The East Fork also forms part of the town's eastern edge.

The town is also at the southern end of Brookville Lake. This lake was created in 1974 by the United States Army Corps of Engineers.

According to the 2010 census, Brookville covers about 1.54 square miles (3.99 square kilometers). Most of this area, about 1.5 square miles (3.88 square kilometers), is land. The rest, about 0.04 square miles (0.10 square kilometers), is water.
