Bruce Paul Abbott (born July 28, 1954) is an American actor. He has worked in movies, on stage, and on television. He became well-known for playing Dan Cain in the science fiction horror films Re-Animator (1985) and Bride of Re-Animator (1990).
He also appeared in other horror movies like Bad Dreams (1988) and The Prophecy II (1996). He was in the sci-fi film Out of Time (1988). From 1992 to 1993, he played Judge Nicholas Marshall in the TV show Dark Justice.
Early Life and Theater Beginnings
Abbott was born and grew up in Portland, Oregon. He finished high school at David Douglas High School in 1972. His acting journey started as a dancer and actor at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival in Ashland, Oregon. He spent three seasons there from 1975 to 1978. During this time, he performed in plays like A Winter's Tale, All's Well That Ends Well, and The Tempest.
He later studied at Portland State University. After that, he attended the American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco, California.
Career Highlights
In 1980, Bruce Abbott moved from Portland to Hollywood to pursue acting. Soon after, he got a role as a villain in the movie Tag: The Assassination Game. On the set of this film, he met actress Linda Hamilton, who would become his first wife.
A big part of his career came in 1985. He starred as a medical student named Dan Cain in the sci-fi horror film Re-Animator. He played this role again in the sequel, Bride of Re-Animator, in 1990. He also appeared in Summer Heat (1987), a drama set in the past.
Abbott had a main role in the futuristic TV movie Out of Time (1988). In 1991, he played Harry Pierpont in the TV film Dillinger. From 1992 to 1993, he was a regular on the TV series Dark Justice, playing Judge Nicholas Marshall.
Throughout his career, Abbott has been a guest star on many popular TV shows. These include Murder, She Wrote, Family Law, and Diagnosis: Murder. He also had a supporting role in the TV series The Net, which was based on a movie starring Sandra Bullock. In 1998, he appeared in the horror sequel The Prophecy II.
Today, Bruce Abbott has mostly stepped back from acting. He works as an architect and artist. He is involved in the custom-design industry.
Personal Life
Bruce Abbott married Linda Hamilton in 1982. They had one child together, a son named Dalton Abbott, who was born on October 4, 1989. Dalton even appeared as a baby in the movie Terminator 2: Judgment Day. Bruce and Linda divorced around 1989.
Abbott later married actress Kathleen Quinlan on April 12, 1994. They have one son together, Tyler Quinlan, born on October 17, 1990. Bruce and Kathleen divorced in 2022.
