Kathleen Denise Quinlan (born November 19, 1954) is an American actress. She has starred in many movies and TV shows. She is famous for her roles in the films I Never Promised You a Rose Garden (1977) and Apollo 13 (1995). Her acting has earned her nominations for both Golden Globe and Academy Awards. She has been acting for almost fifty years!

Early Life and School Days
Kathleen Quinlan was born in Pasadena, California. Her mom, Josephine, worked with military supplies. Her dad, Robert, was a TV sports director. Kathleen grew up in Mill Valley, California.
She went to Tamalpais High School and studied drama there. During her senior year, a famous director named George Lucas filmed part of his movie "American Graffiti" at her school gym. Kathleen even got a small part in the movie!
Besides acting, Kathleen was also a talented athlete. She was a gymnast and a diver in school. This skill helped her get a job as a "stunt double" for a diving scene in the movie "One is a Lonely Number." She continued her studies in both sports and drama at College of Marin. At 19, she moved to Los Angeles to become a full-time actress.

One of Kathleen's most famous roles was playing Deborah. Deborah was a sixteen-year-old girl with schizophrenia in the movie I Never Promised You a Rose Garden (1977). For this role, she was nominated for a Golden Globe Award.
Later, in 1995, she played Marilyn Lovell in the movie Apollo 13. She played the wife of astronaut Jim Lovell, who was played by Tom Hanks. This role earned her nominations for both a Golden Globe Award and an Academy Award.

Kathleen has appeared in many other movies. Some of these include Lifeguard (1976), Airport '77 (1977), and Twilight Zone: The Movie (1983). She also played Patricia Kennealy-Morrison in the movie The Doors. In 1997, she won a Blockbuster Entertainment Award for her role in Breakdown. In that movie, she played the kidnapped wife of Kurt Russell's character.
On television, she had a main role for three seasons on the show Family Law. She also had recurring roles on Prison Break, Chicago Fire, and Blue. She appeared in episodes of Alfred Hitchcock Presents, Diagnosis: Murder, Glee, and House.
More recently, Kathleen appeared in the 2006 horror film The Hills Have Eyes. She also played a senator in an episode of the science-fiction series Stargate Universe in 2011. In 2019, she was in an episode of How to Get Away with Murder. She also had a lead role in the 2021 film Walking with Herb.
Kathleen's Personal Life
Kathleen Quinlan was married to artist Warren Long in 1987. Later, she met actor Bruce Abbott while working on the TV movie Trapped in 1989. They got married on April 12, 1994, and have one son named Tyler, who was born in 1990. They divorced in 2022 but remain good friends.
