Anthony Bruce Kendall was born on June 27, 1964. He is a famous New Zealand sailor. Bruce has won two Olympic medals in sailing. He is also a local politician. Since 2019, he has been an elected member of the Howick Local Board.

Bruce Kendall's Sailing Journey
Bruce Kendall comes from a family of sailors. He started sailing at a young age. He first learned in small boats like the P-class and Starlings. Later, he moved on to larger boats. When he was 14, he discovered windsurfing and loved it.
Olympic Achievements
Bruce Kendall competed in boardsailing at the Olympics. His first Olympic medal was a bronze. He won it at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.
Four years later, he went to the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul. There, he won the gold medal! It was a huge achievement for him and New Zealand.
He also competed in the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona. He almost won another medal. However, his equipment broke during a race. The fin on his board snapped, which made it hard to compete.
Coaching and Family
After his competing days, Bruce became a coach. At the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, he coached the New Zealand sailing team. He even tried to qualify for the 2008 Summer Olympics himself. He teamed up with another former Olympic sailor, Aaron McIntosh, but they didn't make it.
Bruce Kendall has a younger sister, Barbara Kendall. She is also an Olympic gold medallist in sailing. They are the only brother and sister from New Zealand to both win Olympic gold medals.
In 2012, Bruce coached the Hong Kong board sailing team.

Bruce Kendall is active in his local community. He is involved in local politics in East Auckland.
Political Career
Bruce first ran for the Howick Local Board in 2016. He was not elected that time. However, he tried again in 2019. This time, he was successful and became a member of the Board. He represents the Pakuranga area.
Awards and Recognition
Bruce Kendall has received special awards for his achievements.
In 1989, he was made a Member of the Order of the British Empire. This award was for his great service to boardsailing. In 2013, he was honored again. He was inducted into the New Zealand Sports Hall of Fame. This means his achievements are recognized as some of the best in New Zealand sports history.
