Anthony Bruce Kendall is a famous New Zealand sailor. He is known for winning two Olympic medals in sailing. He won a gold medal and a bronze medal for his country. Bruce is also involved in local politics.

Sailing Adventures
Bruce Kendall comes from a family who loves sailing. He started sailing small boats like the P-class and Starlings when he was young. Later, he moved on to bigger boats. When he was 14, he discovered windsurfing and really enjoyed it.
Olympic Journey
Bruce competed in windsurfing at the Olympic Games. His first medal was a bronze at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. Four years later, at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, he won the gold medal! He also competed in the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona. He had some bad luck with his equipment there and didn't win another medal.
Later, Bruce became a sailing coach for the New Zealand team at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. He even tried to qualify for the 2008 Summer Olympics in a different type of sailboat, but it didn't work out.
Bruce Kendall has a younger sister, Barbara Kendall, who is also an Olympic gold medalist in sailing. They are the only brother and sister from New Zealand to both win Olympic gold medals!
An Eventful Day
In 2002, an accident happened near the Olympic sailing area in Athens, Greece. A windsurfer named Kimberly Birkenfeld collided with a motorboat driven by Bruce Kendall. Bruce quickly pulled her onto his boat and helped her. She was taken to the hospital.
After the accident, a legal case followed. The courts looked into the situation and made decisions about the case.
Coaching Others
In 2012, Bruce Kendall was the coach for the Hong Kong board sailing team. He helped young sailors improve their skills.
Local Politics
Bruce Kendall is active in local government in East Auckland, New Zealand. He first tried to join the Howick Local Board in 2016. He was elected to the Board in 2019, representing the Pakuranga area. This means he helps make decisions for his local community.
Awards and Recognition
Bruce Kendall has received special awards for his achievements. In 1989, he was made a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for his services to boardsailing. In 2013, he was added to the New Zealand Sports Hall of Fame. This is a special place for New Zealand's greatest sports heroes.
