Bryant Lee Mix, born on July 28, 1972, is a former American football player. He played as a defensive end for the Houston/Tennessee Oilers in the National Football League (NFL) for two seasons. The Oilers picked him in the second round of the 1996 NFL draft. Before joining the NFL, he played college football at Northwest Mississippi Community College and Alcorn State University.

Early Life of Bryant Mix

Bryant Lee Mix was born in Water Valley, Mississippi, on July 28, 1972. He went to Water Valley High School. There, he was a talented athlete, playing many sports. He earned a "letter" in football, baseball, basketball, and track. A letter means he was a key player on the team. He helped his high school football team win the Class 3A State championship in 1990.

College Football Career

Mix started his college football journey at Northwest Mississippi Community College. He played there from 1992 to 1993. During this time, he was recognized as an honorable mention All-American. This means he was one of the best players in college football.

Later, Mix moved to Alcorn State University to play for the Alcorn State Braves. He played there for two years. In both seasons, he was named to the All-Southwestern Athletic Conference team. He also earned the title of Black College All-American. While at Alcorn State, he set new school records. He had the most sacks in a single game and the most sacks in a season. In 2008, Bryant Mix was honored. He was inducted into Northwest Mississippi Community College's "Northwest Sports Hall of Fame."

Professional Football Career

The Houston Oilers chose Bryant Mix in the 1996 NFL draft. He was the 38th player picked overall in the second round. He officially joined the team on July 20, 1996.

In his first year, 1996, Mix played in six games for the Oilers. He started in two of those games. He made six solo tackles, two assisted tackles, and one sack. A sack is when a defensive player tackles the opposing team's quarterback.

In 1997, the team became the Tennessee Oilers. Mix played in one game that season. However, he did not record any statistics. The Oilers released him from the team on August 30, 1998.

Mix then signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on October 27, 1998. He did not play in any games for them during the 1998 season. The Buccaneers released him on August 29, 1999.

Coaching Career

After his playing career, Bryant Mix returned to his old high school. In 2001, he became an assistant football coach at Water Valley High School. He helped the football team win another state title in 2018. He has also spent time coaching track at Water Valley High.
