Bryce Wilson's Music Journey
Starting with Mantronix
Bryce Wilson joined the hip-hop group Mantronix in 1990. He became the main rapper and keyboard player for their album This Should Move Ya. This album was quite popular in the UK. Two of its songs, "Got to Have Your Love" and "Take Your Time," became top 10 hits there. In the United States, the album also did well on the R&B/Hip-Hop charts.
Mantronix released one more album, The Incredible Sound Machine, in 1991. This album explored different music styles like new jack swing and house music. After touring for this album, the group decided to stop making music together.
Forming Groove Theory
After Mantronix disbanded, Bryce Wilson teamed up with singer Amel Larrieux. Together, they formed the music duo called Groove Theory. In 1995, they released their first album, also named Groove Theory.
This album included their very popular song "Tell Me". This song was a big hit, reaching number 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and number 3 on the R&B chart. It even earned a gold certification, meaning it sold many copies.
Later, in 2000, Groove Theory released an EP called 4 Shure. This was the last recording released by the group.
Working as a Record Producer
Bryce Wilson is also a talented record producer. In 1996, he worked with famous producer Babyface. They co-produced the song "You're Makin' Me High" for singer Toni Braxton. This song became a huge success, reaching number 1 on both the R&B and Pop charts. Bryce Wilson was even in the music video for the song.
He was nominated for a Grammy Award for his work on "You're Makin' Me High." Bryce has also produced music for other artists, including Brandy's album in 2008. In 2015, two songs he helped write became number one hits on the Billboard charts: Secondcity's "I Wanna Feel" and Wale's "The Glass Egg."
