Bu Xiaolin (born August 1958) is an important Chinese politician. She is from the Mongol ethnic group. From 2016 to 2021, she served as the leader of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region People's Government. This role is similar to a state governor in other countries. Bu Xiaolin comes from a family of well-known leaders. Her father, Buhe, was also a chairman of Inner Mongolia. Her grandfather, Ulanhu, was the first chairman of Inner Mongolia and even served as a Vice President of China.

Bu Xiaolin's Early Life and Education

Bu Xiaolin was born in August 1958 in Tumed Left Banner, a place in Inner Mongolia. When she was young, she worked for a short time in the countryside. This was part of a program during the end of the Cultural Revolution.

After that, she joined the People's Liberation Army. From 1977 to 1980, she worked as a medic in a hospital for the Inner Mongolia Military District.

Her University Studies

In September 1980, Bu Xiaolin started studying at Peking University. She focused on economic law and finished her degree four years later. After graduating, she taught law briefly at Inner Mongolia University.

In 1985, she began working for the government of Inner Mongolia. She continued her education later, studying law part-time at Jilin University from 1998 to 2001. She earned a special law degree there in 2001. From 2003 to 2006, she did advanced research at the Institute of Sociology. This institute is part of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.

Her Career in Government

Bu Xiaolin took on many important roles in government. In September 2004, she became the Chief of Alxa League. Two years later, she became the top leader of the Party Committee in that area.

Rising Through the Ranks

In January 2008, she was promoted to Vice-Chairwoman of Inner Mongolia. This was a big step up in her career. In January 2014, she became the Head of the United Front Work Department for Inner Mongolia. She also joined the main leadership group for the region's Party. She took over this position from someone else.

Becoming Chairwoman of Inner Mongolia

On March 30, 2016, Bu Xiaolin was appointed as the acting chairwoman of Inner Mongolia. She took over from Bagatur, who had stepped down. On June 23, her appointment as chairwoman was officially confirmed.

Bu Xiaolin was a significant figure because she was the second woman to lead the Inner Mongolia government. She was also the sixth woman in the history of the People's Republic of China to lead a provincial-level government. Other women who held similar roles included Gu Xiulian, Uyunqimg, Song Xiuyan, Li Bin, and Liu Hui.

After serving as chairwoman, on August 20, 2021, she was appointed to a new role. She became a vice chairperson of the National People's Congress Environment Protection and Resources Conservation Committee. This committee works on protecting the environment and natural resources.

Her Family's Legacy

Bu Xiaolin comes from a very important political family. Her father, Buhe, and her grandfather, Ulanhu, both served as chairmen of Inner Mongolia. Her grandfather, Ulanhu, was also a founding general of China and a Vice President of the People's Republic of China. This means her family has a long history of leadership and service in China.
