Buchan Gulf is a long, narrow inlet of the sea, also known as a fjord. It is found on the northeastern coast of Baffin Island in Nunavut, Canada. This area is part of the Arctic, a very cold region at the top of the world. The nearest community, Pond Inlet, is about 200 kilometers (124 miles) north of the gulf.

What Buchan Gulf Looks Like

Buchan Gulf is a beautiful place with open water, tall cliffs along the coast, and rocky beaches. The gulf itself covers an area of about 22 square kilometers (8.5 square miles). The land around it can rise quite high, up to 600 meters (about 1,970 feet) above sea level.

Buchan Gulf is a very special place for wildlife. It is recognized as an Important Bird Area in Canada because many birds live or visit here. It is also a "Key Migratory Bird Terrestrial Habitat site," which means it's a crucial spot for birds that travel long distances.

A large number of northern fulmars live in this area. These are seabirds that look a bit like gulls but are related to albatrosses. They spend most of their lives flying over the ocean.
