Buena Vista (pronounced BEW-nə VIS-tə) is a community in Saginaw County, Michigan. It is known as an unincorporated community, which means it's not an official city or town with its own government. It's also a census-designated place (CDP). This means the U.S. Census Bureau has drawn boundaries around it just for counting people and collecting statistics.
Buena Vista is located right next to the city of Saginaw, mostly to its east side. A major highway, Interstate 75, runs through the area. In 2020, about 5,855 people lived in Buena Vista.
History of Buena Vista
Buena Vista started in 1846. A man named Curtis Emerson bought an old, unused mill there. He then built a settlement around it, creating the community we know today.
The name "Buena Vista" comes from a famous battle. It was named to remember Zachary Taylor's victory at the Battle of Buena Vista. This battle happened not long before the community was founded.
In 2013, a big change happened for schools in the area. The Buena Vista School District was officially closed. The students who lived in that district were then moved to three other nearby school districts.
