History of Buena Vista Township

Long ago, the Ojibwe people called this area Tik-wak-baw-hawning.

In 2013, the local school district, Buena Vista School District, was closed down. Its students were then sent to three other nearby school districts: Bridgeport-Spaulding, Saginaw City, and Frankenmuth.

Communities in Buena Vista Township

Buena Vista Township is home to several smaller communities. Here are some of them:

  • Buena Vista is a community within the township. It is a census-designated place, which means it's a special area the government tracks for population numbers.
  • Crow Island is another community in the township. It once had its own post office in the late 1800s.
  • Fifield was a settlement that had a sawmill and a train station. It also had a post office for a short time around 1900.
