Buer is a large part of the city of Gelsenkirchen in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It's known for its main street, Hochstrasse, which is the biggest shopping street in Gelsenkirchen.
A Look Back at Buer's History
In 1928, Buer joined with the nearby cities of Gelsenkirchen and Horst. Together, they formed a new city called Gelsenkirchen-Buer. This name was later shortened to Gelsenkirchen in 1930.
During World War II, a factory in Scholven/Buer that made synthetic oil was a target for bombing. This was part of a bigger plan to stop oil production during the war. Luckily, Buer's town hall was not badly damaged and still looks much like it did before.
