Why is it Called Buffalo Woman Lake?

The name "Buffalo Woman Lake" was officially approved on March 6, 1929. The group that made this decision was the United States Geographic Board. Today, this group is known as the United States Board on Geographic Names.

The name "Buffalo Woman" was suggested by Howard A. Noble. He was the General Manager of the Glacier Park Hotel at the time. The National Park Service also approved this name. The name is connected to the Blackfeet people. They are a Native American tribe with a rich history in this region.
