Burke is a small village located in Franklin County, New York, in the United States. It is part of the larger town of Burke.
In 2010, about 211 people lived here. By 2020, the population had changed to 160 people. The village is found northeast of Malone, which is the main town for the county.
Discovering Burke's Past
The area where Burke is now was first settled in the late 1700s. Back then, it was known as "West Chateaugay."
Over time, the community had other names. It was once called "The Hollow" and also "Andrusville." The wider town of Burke is also home to a place called the Wilder Farm.
Where is Burke Located?
Burke village is in the northeastern part of Franklin County. It sits just south of the center of the town of Burke.
If you're looking at a map, Burke is about 7 miles (11 km) northeast of Malone. It's also about 5 miles (8 km) southwest of another village called Chateaugay.
The village covers a total area of about 0.29 square miles (0.75 square kilometers). All of this area is land.
A small river called the Little Trout River flows through Burke. This river eventually connects to the St. Lawrence River. The village is also located south of U.S. Route 11, a major road.
