History of Burkettsville
Burkettsville began to grow when a railroad line was built through the area. This made it easier for people and goods to travel. The village area was officially mapped out in 1876. This mapping process is called "platting." A post office opened in Burkettsville in 1881. It helped people send and receive mail. The post office served the community for many years. It finally closed its doors in 1914.
