Burmerange (pronounced byur-mer-anj in French, Boermereng in Luxembourgish, and Bürmeringen in German) is a small village located in the southeastern part of Luxembourg. It is part of the Remich area, which is called a canton.
Burmerange used to be its own local government area, known as a commune. However, in 2011, it joined with the nearby commune of Schengen. Another village called Wellenstein also became part of Schengen at the same time.
In 2024, about 303 people lived in the village of Burmerange.
What is a Former Commune?
A commune in Luxembourg is like a local district or a town council area. It has its own local government that makes decisions for the people living there, like managing local services. Burmerange was once one of these independent areas.
The area that used to be the Burmerange commune included these villages:
- Burmerange
- Elvange
- Emerange
- Froumillen
- Weidemillen
