The Remich canton has been an official canton since February 24, 1843. It has a long history as an important part of Luxembourg.
How Did Remich Canton's Borders Change?
Over time, some of the smaller towns, called communes, have joined together. For example, on January 1, 2012, the communes of Burmerange and Wellenstein became part of the larger commune of Schengen. This helps manage the area better.

The Remich canton is in the southeastern part of Luxembourg. It covers an area of about 127.9 square kilometers (about 49.4 square miles). In 2017, about 21,987 people lived there. This means there are about 172 people living in each square kilometer.
