What is Burr Point?
Burr Point is a small piece of land that stretches out into the sea. It marks the very eastern edge of the island. Imagine drawing a line from the top to the bottom of Ireland. Burr Point would be the furthest point to the right.
Where is Burr Point Located?
You can find Burr Point in County Down, which is in Northern Ireland. It's on a narrow strip of land called the Ards Peninsula. This area is known for its beautiful coastline. Burr Point is about 2 kilometers (just over a mile) southeast of a village called Ballyhalbert. Its exact location is at a longitude of 5.43 degrees West.
The Easternmost Point: Burr Point vs. Big Bow Meel Island
While Burr Point is the easternmost point of the mainland, there's an even more easterly spot nearby. This is a rock called Big Bow Meel Island. It is located about 900 meters (or 0.56 miles) off the coast of the Ards Peninsula. Big Bow Meel Island is slightly further east, at a longitude of 5.42 degrees West. So, Burr Point is the furthest east you can go on the land itself.
