Where is Burra Eastern Districts?
Burra Eastern Districts is located in the Mid North region of South Australia. It includes two main land divisions called "Hundreds." These are Rees and King. It also has parts of two other Hundreds, Baldina and Mongolata. These "Hundreds" are old ways of dividing up land for settlement.
A Glimpse into History
People started settling in this area in the 1870s. The land divisions of Baldina and Mongolata were officially declared in December 1875. This was done by the Governor at the time, Anthony Musgrave. The Hundred of Rees was declared in October 1878, and the Hundred of King in September 1879.
What's in Burra Eastern Districts?
This area is home to Thistlebeds Station. Thistlebeds Station is famous for hosting the Burra Picnic Races. A long time ago, Thistlebeds used to have its own post office and a school. However, these have both closed down over the years.
You can also find the Baldina Cemetery in Burra Eastern Districts. It is a quiet place where people from the community are buried.
