Mount Bryan East is a small rural area in the Mid North region of South Australia. It is part of the Regional Council of Goyder. This area officially got its name in August 2000. People had called it "Mount Bryan East" for a long time before that.

It can be a bit confusing, but the old government town once known as Mount Bryan East is not in this area anymore. That old town is now part of the nearby place called Mount Bryan.

History of Mount Bryan East

The Local School

A school opened in Mount Bryan East in 1885. It closed for a while in 1916. The school then reopened in 1925. However, it closed for good in 1947.

Famous Resident

Sir Hubert Wilkins was a very famous person born in Mount Bryan East. He grew up here and went to the local school. Sir Hubert Wilkins was an Australian explorer, pilot, and photographer. He was known for his trips to the Arctic and Antarctic.

His family's old home is still standing in Mount Bryan East. It was once in ruins, but Dick Smith, a well-known Australian businessman, helped restore it in 2001. Today, visitors can go and see this historic home.
