Wonna's History
The land around Wonna has an interesting past. In 1878, Governor William Jervois officially named a large area of land the "Hundred of Wonna." A "Hundred" is an old way of dividing up land, like a district.
The modern area of Wonna covers about half of this original Hundred. It also includes some land from a nearby area called the Hundred of Terowie. The rest of the original Hundred of Wonna is now part of Franklyn.
The Town That Wasn't
In March 1880, a government town called Mallett was planned and surveyed in the Wonna area. However, this town never really grew. Because it wasn't successful, it was officially declared to have stopped existing on May 16, 1929.

Mungibbie Homestead
The Mungibbie Homestead is one of the oldest buildings still standing in the Wonna district. It's so important that it is listed on the South Australian Heritage Register. This means it's protected because of its historical value.
