Mount Bryan is a small town located in the north-east part of South Australia. It sits along the Barrier Highway, about 20 kilometers (12 miles) north of Burra. The town is part of the Regional Council of Goyder.

How Mount Bryan Got Its Name
Mount Bryan was named after a nearby mountain peak. In December 1839, Governor George Gawler saw this peak during his travels. He decided to name it in honor of Henry Bryan, a young man who sadly got lost and died from thirst during Governor Gawler's trip. Famous explorers like Charles Sturt and Henry Inman were also with Governor Gawler on this expedition.
A Look at Mount Bryan's Past
Long ago, Mount Bryan was a busy farming area. It was especially known for its Merino sheep farms, which produced some of Australia's best wool. Today, the town is much quieter. The main building you'll find there is the Mount Bryan Hotel, an old and historic pub.
Exploring the Area
Mount Bryan is located at the northern end of the Mount Lofty Ranges. This means there are beautiful views of the hills all around. A popular trip from Mount Bryan is to head north-east to visit the cottage where Sir Hubert Wilkins was born and grew up. He was a famous explorer who traveled to the North and South Poles. His home has been restored, so you can see what it was like.
Wind Power in Mount Bryan
In the late 2000s and early 2010s, the Hallett Wind Farm was built near Mount Bryan. This wind farm uses large wind turbines on the hilltops to create clean energy. It's a modern way to generate electricity from the wind.
Mount Bryan's Railway History
From 1878 until the late 1980s, Mount Bryan was a stop on the Roseworthy-Peterborough railway line. This railway helped connect the town to other places and transport goods.
Historic Buildings
One important historical building in the area is the Mackerode Homestead. It is so important that it is listed on the South Australian Heritage Register. This means it's protected because of its historical value.
