Footnotes Coordinates

North Booborowie is a small country area, known as a "rural locality," in the Mid North region of South Australia. It is part of the Regional Council of Goyder, which helps manage the local area.

This place officially got its name and boundaries in August 2008. Before that, the name North Booborowie was sometimes used for the nearby area of Willalo. Now, Willalo is its own separate locality to the north.

A Look Back at North Booborowie's Past

North Booborowie has an interesting history, especially how its land was used.

Early Days and Land Use

A long time ago, this entire area was part of a very large farm called the North Booborowie pastoral station. A "pastoral station" is a huge property used for raising livestock like sheep or cattle.

In 1911, the state government bought this big farm. They wanted to divide it into smaller pieces of land. This process was called "closer settlement," which meant more people could move to the area and start their own smaller farms. The large station was split into 89 different blocks.

School and Post Office History

Life in North Booborowie once included its own school and post office. The North Booborowie School first opened its doors on April 29, 1914. It taught local children for many years before closing in 1965. The last five students who attended were then moved to the school in nearby Willalo.

A place to send and receive mail, called a postal receiving office, started in North Booborowie on November 12, 1923. It was upgraded to a full post office in 1927. However, it closed temporarily in 1956 and then permanently on April 30, 1957.

The area was also home to the North Booborowie Government Experimental Farm. This farm likely helped test new farming methods or crops for the region.

Life in North Booborowie Today

Today, North Booborowie is mainly used for farming. The land is set aside, or "zoned," for primary production. This means it's used for either growing crops (agriculture) or raising animals (grazing).
