Burton "Burkie" Burns is a well-known American football coach. He was born on October 27, 1952. Most recently, he worked as the running backs coach for the New York Giants in the National Football League (NFL). Before that, Coach Burns spent many years coaching college football. He was a coach at the University of Alabama from 2007 to 2017. At Alabama, he was also the associate head coach. From 1999 to 2006, he was the running backs coach at Clemson. Earlier in his career, he was an assistant coach at Tulane from 1994 to 1998.
Playing Football in College
Burton Burns also played football himself! He was a fullback for the University of Nebraska. He played there from 1972 to 1976. His coach was the famous Tom Osborne.
During his time at Nebraska, his teams were very successful. They won at least nine games in each season. Burns also played in big college football games called bowl games. These included the Orange Bowl, the Cotton Bowl, and the Sugar Bowl. He earned his college degree in education from Nebraska in 1976.
Coach Burns' Family Life
Burton Burns is married to Connie Winder. They have a family with four children. Their three daughters are named Amber, Christy, and Erin. They also have a son named Damon. The couple is also proud grandparents to one granddaughter and one grandson.
