Buster Falls, Nevada facts for kids
Buster Falls was once a busy mining camp in a place called El Dorado Canyon, near what is now Nelson, Nevada. Today, it's a ghost town, meaning no one lives there anymore. It was an important spot during the American Civil War (1861-1865), a time when America was divided. The camp was located above Huse Spring and the Techatticup Mine in the Colorado Mining District. No one knows for sure how Buster Falls got its name. It was about a mile up the canyon from another camp called Lucky Jim Camp.
A Look Back at Buster Falls
Buster Falls was started in 1862, during the American Civil War. This war was fought between the northern states (called the Union) and the southern states (called the Confederacy). The miners living in Buster Falls were loyal to the Union side.
Just a mile down the canyon, at the base of the Techatticup Mine, was Lucky Jim Camp. The miners there supported the Confederate side. So, these two mining camps, very close to each other, represented the two different sides of the war.
