A Look Back at Butler's History
Butler was first planned out in 1856. This happened when the railroad lines were built to reach this area. It's believed the city was named after David Butler, an early pioneer in the region.
Butler officially became a town in 1866. Later, in 1903, it grew even more and was recognized as a city.
The Fastest Train Ride
On July 23, 1966, something amazing happened near Butler. A special train car, called the M-497 Black Beetle, made history. This train car was a RDC-3 that had two jet engines added to it!
It traveled on a very straight and flat rail line between Butler and Stryker, Ohio. The M-497 Black Beetle reached an incredible speed of 183.68 miles per hour (295.60 km/h). This set an American rail speed record that is still unbroken today!
Downtown's Historic Charm
The central part of Butler, known as the Downtown Butler Historic District, is special. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2001. This means its buildings and area are important for their history and architecture.

The Public Library
The city of Butler is proud to have the Butler Public Library. In August 2009, the library finished a big project. They expanded and renovated the building, almost doubling its size! This expansion added a new Children's Department with a special Story Time Room. It also created a new community room, a "Teen Zone" for young adults, and a Genealogy Room for researching family history.

- Nemo Leibold – He was a professional baseball player. He played as an outfielder for the Chicago White Sox in both the 1917 and 1919 World Series.
