Button Bay is a cool, shallow area of water. You can find it on the eastern side of Lake Champlain. It used to be called Button Mould Bay or Buttonmold Bay.

This bay is located in Ferrisburgh, a town in Addison County, Vermont. It's also close to Vergennes. Button Bay sits right between the amazing Green Mountains in Vermont and the tall Adirondack Mountains in New York.

Why is it Called Button Bay?

The name "Button Bay" comes from something special found on its shores. People discovered small, round pieces of clay there. These clay pieces looked a lot like actual buttons. Some people thought they looked more like the moulds used to make buttons. Either way, these unique clay shapes gave the bay its interesting name!

Button Bay State Park

Button Bay is also home to a popular state park. Button Bay State Park was created in 1964. State parks are special areas of land. They are protected by the government for everyone to enjoy. People can visit Button Bay State Park for fun outdoor activities.
