Byrd Prillerman (October 19, 1859 – April 25, 1929) was an important American educator. He was also a school administrator. Prillerman served as the fourth principal of the West Virginia Collegiate Institute. This school is now known as West Virginia State University. He led the school from 1909 until 1919. West Virginia State University considers him its fourth president.

Byrd Prillerman: A Leader in Education

Byrd Prillerman taught at the West Virginia Collegiate Institute. He did this before becoming its principal. He took on the role of principal in 1909. He served in this important position for ten years. His time as principal ended in 1919. John Warren Davis took over as president after him.

His Legacy

Byrd Prillerman's work in education is still remembered today. A school in Raleigh County, West Virginia, was named after him. It was called the Byrd Prillerman School. Sadly, this school burned down in 1962 and was not rebuilt.

However, his name lives on in other ways. A special scholarship has been created to honor the school and his memory. Also, Prillerman Hall at West Virginia State University is named for him. This shows how important he was to the university.
