Bäckaby Old Church (Swedish: Bäckaby gamla kyrka) was a special wooden church building in Sweden. Some of its oldest parts were built way back in the 1320s!
This old wooden church was first located in Bäckaby, which is a place near Vetlanda. But then, someone bought it and had it moved to the town park in Jönköping. It was opened again in its new spot on August 31, 1902. A newer church, called Bäckaby Church, had already replaced it in Bäckaby in 1899.
The Church's Sad End
On the evening of April 28, 2000, the Bäckaby Old Church was completely destroyed by a fire. It was later discovered that the fire was started on purpose. Many people in the community were very sad about losing the church. It had been a popular place for important events like weddings and baptisms.
A Place to Remember
In 2003, a special memorial site was created where the church once stood. This place helps people remember the old church and its history.
