CAE Douala is a special school in Douala, Cameroon. It teaches people how to become pilots, flight attendants, and flight dispatchers. This school is owned by a big Canadian company called CAE. It was the very first school in Cameroon to train people for civil aviation. It used to be called Sabena Flight Academy Africa (CAE SFA-A).
How CAE Douala Started
CAE Douala began in 2008. It was founded by Joseph Barla and Jean-Yves Kotto. At first, it was connected to a Belgian school called Sabena Flight Academy, which started in 1953.
Just a few months later, the Canadian company CAE took over Sabena Flight Academy. Because of this, CAE Douala became part of the CAE Global Academy network. It was then renamed CAE Global Academy Douala.
What Equipment They Use
At its campus in Douala, the school has three special machines called flight simulators. These simulators help students practice flying without leaving the ground.
- One simulator is an FNPT2. It feels just like flying a big Boeing 737-800 airplane.
- Another simulator is also an FNPT2. This one is set up to feel like a Diamond DA42 aircraft.
- The third simulator is an FNPT1. This one is used specifically for training students on instrument flight rules. This means learning to fly using only the plane's instruments, especially when visibility is poor.
