The exact date when Rez 91 first started broadcasting is not known. However, we know that on October 28, 2011, a group called Wasauksing Communications Group asked for permission to start a new radio station. They wanted it to broadcast in both English and the Ojibwa language. This new station would be for the Wasauksing First Nation community.
On May 9, 2012, the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) gave its approval. The CRTC is a government group that gives licenses to radio and TV stations in Canada.
