Parry Sound is a special type of bay, often called a "sound." It's part of Georgian Bay, which is connected to Lake Huron in Ontario, Canada. This area has a very interesting shape with many deep inlets and islands.

On one side, you'll find Killbear Provincial Park, a popular place to visit. On the other side is Parry Island, home to the Wasauksing First Nation. The town of Parry Sound is located at the very end of this bay. It's the biggest town along the shores of Georgian Bay in this region.

What is Parry Sound?

Parry Sound is a large body of water. It is a "sound" or a "bay" that connects to Georgian Bay. Georgian Bay itself is a big part of Lake Huron. Lake Huron is one of the five Great Lakes in North America.

Geography and Features

This sound has a very unique and uneven shape. It has many deep bays and coves. You will also find lots of islands scattered throughout the water. This makes it a beautiful and interesting place to explore.

Nearby Parks and Communities

Killbear Provincial Park sits on a large piece of land. This land separates Parry Sound from the main part of Georgian Bay. On the southern side of the sound is Parry Island. This island is the traditional home of the Wasauksing First Nation.

The town of Parry Sound is at the very top of the sound. It's the largest community along the Georgian Bay shoreline. This area stretches from Severn Sound all the way to Manitoulin Island.

The larger area around the sound is called the Parry Sound District. This district includes several communities:

  • The town of Parry Sound is the main town and the center of the district.
  • Other parts of the district are less organized, like Parry Sound, Unorganized, Centre Part, Ontario and Parry Sound, Unorganized, North East Part, Ontario.

Electoral Districts

An electoral district is an area that elects a representative to the government. There have been a few electoral districts named after Parry Sound:

  • From 1904 to 1949, there was a federal (national) electoral district called Parry Sound (electoral district).
  • Today, the federal electoral district is called Parry Sound—Muskoka.
