Cañabón: A Special Community
Since 2001, Puerto Rico has had a special program to help communities that need more support. This program works to find areas where people might not have enough resources or opportunities.
In 2004, Cañabón was added to a list of these "Special Communities of Puerto Rico" (Comunidades especiales de Puerto Rico). The goal is to provide extra help and improve life for the people living there.
By 2008, there were 742 places on this list. The program continues to grow and find new ways to support residents in these areas.
