Where is Cabrera de Mar?
Cabrera de Mar is nestled between two other towns, Vilassar de Mar and Mataró. While it has a beautiful coastline, the main part of the town is actually about 2.5 kilometers (about 1.5 miles) away from the sea. It's in a small valley, surrounded by hills like Burriac and Montcabrer. You can even find the old Sant Vicenç de Burriac castle ruins on Burriac hill! The town also shares borders with Cabrils and Argentona.
Parts of the Town
The people of Cabrera de Mar live in several different areas, each with its own history.
- The casc antic is the oldest and main part of the town, located inland.
- Other inland areas include Agell (also called Santa Elena d'Agell), Sant Joan de Munt, and Mas Terrillo.
- Closer to the coast, you'll find areas like Pla de l'Avellà, Costamar, and Bonamar. These parts are perfect for enjoying the sea.
Buildings and Architecture
If you walk around the town center, you'll notice many different styles of buildings. Some look very grand and classic (neoclassical), while others have unique, flowing designs (modernista). You might also see buildings with a more traditional Catalan style (noucentista) or a mix of many styles (eclectic). This variety makes the town interesting to explore.
Getting Around
Cabrera de Mar has always been well-connected to other towns in the Maresme region and to Barcelona.
- The old Camí Ral (Royal Way), now known as the N-II main road, has been used for a long time.
- The railroad connecting Barcelona and Mataró was built in 1848. This was actually the very first railway line in all of the Iberian Peninsula!
- In 1969, the C-32 highway was built, connecting Barcelona to Mataró. This was also the first highway in the Iberian Peninsula, making travel even faster and easier. These connections help people travel for work, school, or fun.
