Club History: How Cadbury Athletic Started
Early Years and Promotions
The club began in 1994. They joined Division Three of the Midland Football Combination. In their first season (1994–95), they finished ninth. Even so, they were promoted to Division Two.
In the 2000–01 season, they finished fourth. This was good enough for promotion to Division One. That same year, they also won the league's Challenge Vase. In 2004–05, they were runners-up in Division One. This success led to their promotion to the Premier Division.
Changes and Recent Success
In 2011–12, Cadbury Athletic finished twelfth in the Premier Division. However, they decided to leave the division. They moved down to Division One.
The club became Division One champions in 2013–14. This was the last season before the league changed. The Midland Combination joined with the Midland Football Alliance. They formed the Midland League. Cadbury Athletic was placed in Division One of this new league.
After the 2020–21 season, the club left Division One. They moved down to Division Two. The very next season, 2021–22, was a great one! They won the Division Two title. They also won the Birmingham Saturday Vase. They beat Tipton Town 4–0 in the final match.
Home Ground: Where They Play
Different Pitches Over Time
The club first played at the Cadbury Recreation Ground. This ground is located at the Cadbury factory in Bournville. However, it did not have floodlights. Because of this, the first team had to move. They played at Pilkington XXX's Triplex Sports Ground in Kings Norton. Later, they moved to Alvechurch's Lye Meadow ground. After that, they returned to the Triplex Ground.
About the Triplex Ground
The Triplex Ground was first built by Richmond Swifts. Between 1956 and 1958, work was done to level the ground. This created raised areas on three sides of the pitch. The fourth side was left open for cricket games. A stand was built next to the railway line in the mid-1990s. Richmond Swifts left the ground because they could not get permission for floodlights. Later, Pilkington XXX took over the ground. They were able to install floodlights.
Return to Cadbury Recreation Ground
When the club moved down to Division Two in 2021, they returned home. They now play at the Cadbury Recreation Ground again.
