Cagua (Spanish pronunciation: [ˈkaɣwa]) is a city in Venezuela. It is the capital of the Sucre Municipality in Aragua State. Cagua is also part of the larger city area of Maracay.

History of Cagua

Cagua was first set up in 1620. It was called "Cagua La Vieja" back then. This was a town for the first Spanish settlers.

The city was later rebuilt in a new spot in 1622. Its new name was "Nuestra Señora del Rosario de Cagua". In the 1700s, the name changed again to "San José de Cagua". Today, everyone just calls it Cagua.

The name "Cagua" comes from an old word. It comes from the Cumanagoto language. The word was "Cahigua", which means "snail".

Geography and Location

Cagua is located 458 meters (about 1,500 feet) above sea level. It sits in the Aragua valley. This area is in the northwestern part of Aragua State. The climate here is a Tropical savannah. This means it's usually warm with wet and dry seasons.
