The Caine Road Bridge is a cool covered bridge in Ohio, United States. It crosses the west branch of the Ashtabula River. This bridge is located in Pierpont Township, within Ashtabula County. It's about 13 miles (20.8 km) east-northeast of Jefferson.

This special bridge was built to celebrate Ashtabula County’s 175th anniversary. It is one of 17 covered bridges in the county that you can still drive across today. The Caine Road Bridge uses a design called a Pratt truss. This design helps the bridge be very strong.

Building the Bridge

The Caine Road Bridge was built in 1986. John Smolen, Jr. was the builder of this bridge. Covered bridges are often built with wood. They have roofs and sides to protect the wooden parts from weather. This helps the bridge last much longer.

Bridge Facts

The Caine Road Bridge is quite long. It stretches for 124 feet (37.8 meters) across the river. If you drive a tall vehicle, you need to know its height. The bridge has an overhead clearance of 13 feet 5 inches (4.1 meters). This means vehicles taller than that cannot pass through.

The design of the Caine Road Bridge is a single span. This means it crosses the river in one continuous section. The Pratt truss design is a common way to build bridges. It uses a pattern of triangles to make the bridge strong and stable.
