Caitlin's Way is a TV show about a city girl who moves to a ranch. It's a live-action teen drama series. The show aired on Nickelodeon from 2000 to 2002. In Australia, it was called Just a Kid. Thomas W. Lynch helped create the show.

About the Show

Caitlin's Way tells the story of Caitlin Seeger. She is a girl from Philadelphia who has had a difficult life. After getting into some trouble, Caitlin has a choice. She can go to a special school for kids who need extra help. Or she can move to Montana to live with her mother's cousin. Caitlin chooses the ranch in Montana.

When she arrives, Caitlin experiences a big change. Life on a ranch is very different from the city! Caitlin is still sad about her mother's death. Her mother, Katherine, died when Caitlin was eight. Caitlin hopes to find a loving family and a forever home. The ranch scenes were filmed near High River in Alberta, Canada. Some parts were also shot in Calgary.

Main Characters

Caitlin Seeger

Caitlin Seeger is a 14-year-old girl. She has lived in many different homes. Her mother died when Caitlin was eight. Her father left when she was four. Caitlin often acts tough because she is still sad. She loves photography and always carries her camera. It used to belong to her mom. Her dream is to become a professional photographer.

When she moves to Montana, Caitlin meets a wild horse. She rescues him from some wranglers and names him Bandit. Over time, Caitlin and the Lowe family learn to understand each other. Caitlin finally finds the loving family and home she always wanted. She likes to read and is good at English. Math is her hardest subject. Caitlin wears a special locket that belonged to her mother. She also loves listening to music. Caitlin used to play soccer. This sport reminds her of her mom. Her favorite color is black.

Dori Lowe

  • Played by Cynthia Belliveau

Dori Lowe is Jim's wife and Griffen's mom. She is also Caitlin's mother's cousin. Dori is a veterinarian. She was the one who suggested Caitlin come to live with them. Dori tries to be a mother figure to Caitlin. Sometimes Caitlin pushes her away. This is because Caitlin doesn't want anyone to replace her own mom.

Dori eventually tells Caitlin the truth about her mother's death. Caitlin's mom died suddenly from an Aneurysm. Caitlin is very upset to hear this. Dori thought Caitlin already knew. Caitlin tells her that no one had ever told her. They become closer as the show goes on. Caitlin finally accepts Dori as a new mother figure. Dori explains she wants to be a mom to Caitlin, but not replace her real mom. Dori played soccer in high school. She had to work hard to stay on the team.

Jim Lowe

  • Played by Ken Tremblett

Jim Lowe is Dori's husband and Griffen's dad. He is also the local sheriff. Caitlin sees Jim as a strong father figure. Her own father left when she was young. Jim is a kind father and husband. He always helps his family. When Caitlin first moves in, they feel a bit awkward. But they soon become very close. Jim loves Caitlin like his own daughter. He does everything he can to help her.

Griffen Lowe

  • Played by Jeremy Foley

Griffen Lowe is Jim and Dori's 14-year-old son. He is also Caitlin's second cousin. Griffen is very smart and always gets good grades. He enjoys computers, riding his bike, playing guitar, and singing. He is in a band called Bad Hygiene with his friends Brett and Eric.

At first, Griffen was not happy about Caitlin moving in. They often argued. Griffen would sometimes say mean things about her past. But despite their fights, they become like brother and sister. They become best friends. They always help each other, no matter what. Griffen often gives Caitlin good advice. He always tries to comfort her when she is sad.

Bandit Bandit is a wild Buckskin stallion. Caitlin helps rescue him from some wranglers. Later, Bandit saves Caitlin from a wild animal. They become very close. Bandit becomes Caitlin's horse. Dori lets Caitlin keep him after checking he is healthy. Caitlin names him Bandit after a horse in a story her mother used to read. Caitlin rides Bandit almost every day. In one episode, Will and Sarah almost take Bandit. They thought he was their lost colt. But Will sees how much Caitlin loves Bandit. He lets her keep him. Bandit almost died in Season 1. His leg got caught in an old trap. But Dori saved his life.

Cousin Cousin is Griffen's dog. He is very friendly and loves everyone. In one episode, Cousin caused a small mess in a store. After Season 1, Cousin is not seen or mentioned again.

Alfalfa Alfalfa is Caitlin's Calico cat. Dori names her Alfalfa after she is born. We meet Alfalfa in Season 2. In Season 3, Caitlin tries to give Alfalfa to Ruth. But Ruth passes away. So Caitlin gets to keep her kitten.

Brett Stevens

  • Played by Stephen Warner

Brett Stevens is Griffen's best friend. He plays bass in their band, "Bad Hygiene." He is also on the basketball team at High River High School. Brett has a younger sister named Julie and a girlfriend named Taylor. Brett dreams of playing in the NBA. He loves riding his bike, like Griffen and Eric.

Taylor Langford

  • Played by Tania Saulnier

Taylor Langford is Brett's girlfriend. She is sometimes Caitlin's rival, but they also bond. Taylor is Griffen's main crush in Season 1. She is on the cheerleading squad and the girls' soccer team. Taylor is one of the most popular girls at High River High School. Taylor and her mother used to win the mother-daughter horse race every year. But Caitlin and Dori broke their winning streak. Taylor wants to be an entertainment lawyer. Taylor's favorite color is pink.

Eric Anderson

  • Played by Brendan Fletcher

Eric Anderson is Griffen's other best friend. He is also sometimes Caitlin's rival. Eric plays drums in "Bad Hygiene." He is on the High River High School football team. Griffen has known Eric since kindergarten. Eric dreams of owning a cattle ranch. He also wants to open a cowboy-themed restaurant. Like Griffen and Brett, Eric loves riding his bike.

Annie

  • Played by Julianna Enciu

Annie becomes Caitlin's new best friend. She is also Griffen's new main crush. We meet Annie in "Caitlin's First Dance." Annie and her family move to High River. Annie takes Caitlin's place as the new kid at school. Annie loves horses and is good at dancing. She works part-time at the diner. Annie is the only one who likes Caitlin and accepts her for who she is. After Season 1, Annie is not seen or mentioned again.

Julie Stevens

  • Played by Alexandra Purvis
  • Episodes: "Little Sister" and "All About Caitlin"

Julie Stevens is Brett's younger sister. She dreams of doing Barrel racing. She has a horse named Patches. Julie's parents almost sold Patches because he was expensive. Julie was very sad. Caitlin helped arrange for Patches to stay at the Lowe Ranch. Because of this, Julie looks up to Caitlin. After "All About Caitlin," Julie is not seen again.

Jordan Clarke

  • Played by Sean Amsing

Jordan Clarke is one of Caitlin's friends. We meet him in Season 1. Jordan loves basketball and is good at rapping. He wants to be a rapper when he grows up. In one episode, Jordan performs a birthday rap for Caitlin to cheer her up.

Nikki

  • Played by Alana Husband
  • Season 2 – Season 3

Nikki is Griffen's ex-girlfriend. They started dating in Season 2. They broke up because Griffen spent too much time with Brett and Eric. But Nikki and Griffen are still friends. She plays the clarinet in the High River High School band.

Will Findlay

  • Season 2 – Season 3

Will Findlay is Caitlin's main love interest. He is introduced in "The Present Part 1." Will and Caitlin have a lot in common. They both lost a parent and moved around a lot. Will has a horse named Sinbad. Will is good at math. Caitlin helped Will change after a motorcycle accident. In "Burned," Caitlin and Will share their first kiss.

Garth Crowchild

Garth is Jim's Native American assistant and best friend. Garth is a local police officer in High River. Garth saved Caitlin's life after she had a car accident. Luckily, Caitlin was wearing her Seat belt. Garth has an interesting friendship with Caitlin. After Season 1, Garth is not seen or mentioned again.

Danny O'Donoghue

Danny O'Donoghue is Caitlin's former foster brother. We meet him in Season 3. Caitlin and Danny used to live in the same foster home. Danny would try to keep Caitlin out of trouble. One day, Danny left. He later joined a band called MyTown. He is now part of The Script.

David Seeger

  • Episodes: "The Promise Part 1" and "The Promise Part 2"

David Seeger is Caitlin's father. He is also Katherine's husband. He first appears in "The Promise Part 1." David left Caitlin and her mother when Caitlin was four. Caitlin had not seen him since and is still upset with him. David is a sculptor. He was wrongly accused of a scam in High River. After a fight with Caitlin, he almost left. But they made up. David told Caitlin he felt bad about leaving. He explained why he did. David moved to High River in "The Promise Part 2."

Season 1 (2000)

The first season had 22 episodes. It started with a three-part episode called "Stray." This is where Caitlin first arrives in Montana and meets Bandit.

Season 2 (2000–01)

Season 2 had 18 episodes. It began with a two-part episode called "The Present."

Season 3 (2001–02)

The third and final season had 11 episodes. The last two episodes were called "The Promise (Part 1)" and "The Promise (Part 2)."
