Caleb Jay Jones (born June 6, 1997) is an American professional ice hockey player. He plays as a defenseman for the Pittsburgh Penguins in the National Hockey League (NHL). Caleb was chosen by the Edmonton Oilers in the 2015 NHL Draft. He has also played for other teams like the Chicago Blackhawks, Colorado Avalanche, and Los Angeles Kings.

Caleb's Hockey Journey
Starting in Junior Hockey
Caleb Jones began his hockey career playing for the Portland Winterhawks in the Western Hockey League (WHL). He also played for the USA Hockey National Team Development Program in the United States Hockey League (USHL). These leagues are important steps for young players hoping to reach the NHL.
Joining the Edmonton Oilers
In 2015, the Edmonton Oilers picked Caleb in the 4th round of the NHL Draft. He signed his first professional contract with them on April 7, 2016. Caleb continued playing for the Winterhawks for two more seasons. He also got a chance to play a few games with the Oilers' farm team, the Bakersfield Condors, in the American Hockey League (AHL).
Making His NHL Debut
Caleb played a full season with the Bakersfield Condors in 2017–18. He was called up to the Oilers on December 12, 2018. This happened after another player, Oscar Klefbom, got injured. Caleb played his very first NHL game on December 14, 2018, against the Philadelphia Flyers.
Moving to New Teams
On July 12, 2021, Caleb was traded from the Oilers to the Chicago Blackhawks. He played for the Blackhawks for two seasons. After the 2022–23 NHL season, Caleb became a free agent. This means he could sign with any team he wanted.
He signed a one-year contract with the Carolina Hurricanes on August 10, 2023. However, before he played a regular game for them, he was traded again. On October 10, 2023, Caleb joined the Colorado Avalanche. He also spent some time playing for their AHL team, the Colorado Eagles.
After one season with the Avalanche, Caleb became a free agent again. On July 5, 2024, he signed a one-year contract with the Los Angeles Kings. He started the season with the Kings but also played for their AHL team, the Ontario Reign.
Joining the Pittsburgh Penguins
As of July 1, 2025, Caleb Jones signed a two-year contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins. He is now a defenseman for the Penguins.
Caleb's Family Life
Caleb comes from a family of athletes. His older brother, Seth Jones, is also a professional ice hockey defenseman in the NHL. Their father is Popeye Jones, who used to be a professional basketball player in the NBA. Caleb was born in Arlington, Texas, when his dad was playing for the Dallas Mavericks.
