Caleb's Hockey Journey

Starting in Junior Hockey

Caleb Jones began his hockey career playing for the Portland Winterhawks in the Western Hockey League (WHL). He also played for the USA Hockey National Team Development Program in the United States Hockey League (USHL). These leagues are important steps for young players hoping to reach the NHL.

Joining the Edmonton Oilers

In 2015, the Edmonton Oilers picked Caleb in the 4th round of the NHL Draft. He signed his first professional contract with them on April 7, 2016. Caleb continued playing for the Winterhawks for two more seasons. He also got a chance to play a few games with the Oilers' farm team, the Bakersfield Condors, in the American Hockey League (AHL).

Making His NHL Debut

Caleb played a full season with the Bakersfield Condors in 2017–18. He was called up to the Oilers on December 12, 2018. This happened after another player, Oscar Klefbom, got injured. Caleb played his very first NHL game on December 14, 2018, against the Philadelphia Flyers.

Moving to New Teams

On July 12, 2021, Caleb was traded from the Oilers to the Chicago Blackhawks. He played for the Blackhawks for two seasons. After the 2022–23 NHL season, Caleb became a free agent. This means he could sign with any team he wanted.

He signed a one-year contract with the Carolina Hurricanes on August 10, 2023. However, before he played a regular game for them, he was traded again. On October 10, 2023, Caleb joined the Colorado Avalanche. He also spent some time playing for their AHL team, the Colorado Eagles.

After one season with the Avalanche, Caleb became a free agent again. On July 5, 2024, he signed a one-year contract with the Los Angeles Kings. He started the season with the Kings but also played for their AHL team, the Ontario Reign.

Joining the Pittsburgh Penguins

As of July 1, 2025, Caleb Jones signed a two-year contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins. He is now a defenseman for the Penguins.
