The Story of Pascual
How It All Began
In 1969, a company called Leche Pascual started in a town called Aranda de Duero, in Burgos, Spain. The founder, Don Tomás Pascual Sanz, had many new ideas. From the very start, the company kept making new products every year.
Being a Pioneer
Pascual was the first company in Spain to sell milk that lasted a long time. They also brought in milk packaged in special cartons called Tetra Brik. Later, they were the first to sell skim milk (milk with no fat) and then semi-skim milk (milk with less fat).
Growing and Diversifying
Soon, the company started to make more than just milk. They bought companies that sold mineral water, like Bezoya. This made them strong in the water market. Then, they launched the Zumosol brand, which quickly became a top juice company.
They also started making butter, cream, and even milk mixed with fruit juice, called Bio Frutas (now known as Bifrutas). This created a new type of healthy food. Another big step was making liquid egg that was ultrapasteurized. This made it very safe to eat, removing any risk of salmonella.
Going International
In 1994, Pascual began to sell its products in other countries. They focused on sending yogurts and long-lasting desserts abroad. In 1999, Pascual got a special approval from the US FDA (Food & Drug Administration). This allowed them to send their yogurts to the United States. They were the first company outside the U.S. to get such a high quality approval.
New Products for a New Century
When the year 2000 arrived, Pascual kept innovating. In 2002, they launched Vivesoy, which are drinks made from soy. These drinks created a new category of plant-based drinks in Spain. In 2003, they introduced MásVital, a special food that helps your gut health.
In 2005, Pascual was again a pioneer. They launched the first plastic bottle (PET) for long-lasting milk. This new bottle kept the milk just as good as the carton. That same year, they launched Zumos Pascual, which was the first freshly squeezed orange juice that did not need to be kept cold.
A Change in Leadership
In 2006, Don Tomás Pascual Sanz, the founder, passed away. His oldest son, Tomás Pascual Gómez-Cuétara, took over as the new president. He had been the CEO since 1996.
Supporting Health and People
In 2007, the Tomás Pascual Sanz Institute was created. This group helps share information about healthy habits, good nutrition, and overall health.
A year later, Pascual was recognized for being a "Family Responsible Company." This means they make an effort to support their employees and their families.
In 2010, Pascual bought Mocay caffé to offer coffee to hotels and restaurants. The company also kept improving its quality systems, getting a European excellence seal in 2012.
New Partnerships and Identity
In 2013, Pascual created a new company called Qualianza. This company helps distribute Pascual products and other brands they work with. They also launched a line of food products for people with diabetes, called DiaBalance, with a partner called Esteve Laboratories. Pascual also received awards for its eco-friendly delivery trucks and for promoting equality in the workplace.
The year 2014 was a big one. The company changed its name to Pascual Quality. In 2015, they launched "Extra Creme" Easter milk, a special milk for restaurants and cafes.
In 2016, Pascual Quality started "Pascual Startup." This program helps new Spanish businesses with ideas for food and farming. The company also received an award for supporting Olympic sports. They also launched new products like 0% Skimmed Easter Milk and ColaCao Shake.
In 2024, the company faced a legal challenge regarding how it bought milk from farmers in the past. They had to pay a fine related to competition rules.
