Callahan is a small, unincorporated community located in Siskiyou County, California, United States. This means it's a settlement that isn't officially a city or town with its own local government. It's found in the northern part of California. Callahan has its own post office and a ZIP code of 96014. As of 2009, about 50 people lived there. You can find Callahan along California State Route 3, about 11.5 miles (18.5 km) south-southeast of Etna.
A Look Back: Callahan's History
The community of Callahan got its name from a man named M.B. Callahan. He opened a place for travelers to stop and rest in 1851. This was a very important spot for people journeying through the area.
The post office in Callahan first opened in 1858. Back then, it was called "Callahan's Ranch." Later, in 1892, its name was officially shortened to "Callahan."
