What's in a Name? The Story of Etna
The town of Etna was not always called Etna. It was first known as Rough and Ready. In 1874, its name was officially changed by law to Etna. This new name came from a local flour mill. The mill was spelled Ætna or Aetna, just like Mount Etna in Sicily, Italy.

Etna is located in Northern California, not far from the Oregon border. It sits in the scenic Scott Valley. Nearby communities include Greenview, Fort Jones, and Callahan.
The town is nestled at the base of the Marble Mountain Wilderness. This area is part of the Siskiyou Mountains, which are a subrange of the larger Klamath Mountains.
